ASR1903 Wins “Innovation Breakthrough Award” at 2026 China Strong Chip Awards

On August 20, at the 2026 China IC Design Innovation Conference & 6th China Innovation & Chip Application Expo (ICDIA), the 2026 China Strong Chip Awards were officially announced. ASR Microelectronics’ 5G RedCap chipset platform, ASR1903, was recognized with the “Innovation Breakthrough Award” under the 2026 Strong Chip TOP100 for its outstanding achievements in technological innovation and commercial applications. 


 


As an annual selection dedicated to China’s homegrown integrated circuit products, the China Strong Chip Awards identify innovative IC products that demonstrate technological leadership, strong competitiveness, and reliable quality. The awards serve as a reference for system manufacturers, device brands, and end users when selecting high-quality domestic chip products, while promoting indigenous innovation and accelerating the adoption of homegrown IC technologies.

 

ASR1903’s recognition with the Innovation Breakthrough Award highlights the industry’s growing interest in lightweight 5G technologies and their commercial potential. It also reflects the industry’s recognition of ASR Microelectronics’ continued investment in 5G RedCap R&D and product innovation.

 

RedCap reduces terminal bandwidth requirements, antenna configurations, and certain aspects of hardware complexity while retaining key capabilities of 5G networks. By striking a balance among cost, power consumption, and performance, RedCap is widely regarded as an important technology bridge between traditional 4G IoT connectivity and full-scale 5G NR.

 

From an industry perspective, RedCap is rapidly progressing from technology validation toward commercial deployment. According to the latest industry report released by the Global Suppliers Association (GSA) in April 2026, as of March 2026, 42 operators across 27 countries and regions had invested in 5G RedCap, with 14 operators having launched commercial 5G RedCap services. The global RedCap ecosystem continues to gain momentum.

 

In China, 5G RedCap is also entering a phase of broader-scale deployment. Relevant industry policies have called for continued reductions in the cost of 5G RedCap chipsets, modules, and terminals, while promoting the growth of RedCap connections and expanding applications across industrial automation, energy, logistics, connected vehicles, public safety, smart cities, and other sectors.

 

RedCap is increasingly becoming a key technology for extending 5G beyond high-speed connectivity toward mass-market connectivity across a broad range of industrial and IoT applications.

 

ASR1903: Unlocking the Potential of RedCap Through Chip Innovation


 

 

To address the rapidly growing market for lightweight 5G IoT connectivity, ASR Microelectronics’ ASR1903 is built on 3GPP Release 17 RedCap technology and entered mass production in Q4 2024.

 

As a highly integrated, cost-efficient 5G RedCap/LTE dual-mode SoC, ASR1903 integrates an application processor, communications processor, NR RedCap and LTE Cat.4 baseband, RF transceiver, audio codec, and LPDDR. Supporting frequency bands from 450 MHz to 6 GHz, the platform is designed to address applications requiring moderate-to-high data rates, low power consumption, cost efficiency, and reliable connectivity, providing an optimized 5G RedCap chipset platform for large-scale deployment.

 

Beyond the chipset itself, ASR Microelectronics provides supporting system software and low-level protocol SDKs for ASR1903, enabling customers to accelerate development from chipset and module design to complete terminal products and shorten time to market.

 

Through hardware-software co-design, ASR1903 delivers not only 5G connectivity but also a comprehensive platform for customer-specific product customization and application development. The platform adopts a highly integrated architecture that combines the baseband, RF, and memory components, while supporting both RTOS and OpenWRT operating systems. This helps reduce the number of external components and simplify PCB design, enabling compact, highly integrated solutions for a range of 5G IoT and wearable applications.

 

As a RedCap platform already in mass production, ASR1903 has established a growing market presence across multiple application segments, including MiFi/ broadband (MBB), data transmission modules, general-purpose modules, IP cameras (IPCs), power-system DTUs, and connected-vehicle applications. The platform has already been adopted by customers across several key verticals, with multiple projects progressing into commercial deployment.

 

In the MiFi and MBB segments, ASR1903 has entered mass production across dozens of customer projects, supporting multiple module and terminal products. In the automotive sector, the platform has been adopted in projects involving in-vehicle communication modules and T-Box solutions in collaboration with multiple industry customers and partners. ASR1903 has also expanded into consumer devices, further broadening the application potential of 5G RedCap.

 

The Innovation Breakthrough Award presented to ASR1903 recognizes ASR Microelectronics’ continued commitment to 5G RedCap technology and its efforts to translate chipset innovation into commercial applications.
